Another sign that the world is possibly beginning to believe that Mexico, and particularly Yucatán, is not the dangerous place that US government and media continue to reinforce. This
conference of 1500 business women from all over the world, originally to be in Tunisia, is coming to Mérida. Tunisia was deemed 'not safe' for this type of conference, which is to be held at the
Siglo XXI Yucatan Convention Center in north Merida. Congratulations to Merida and to the 1500 business women!

Merida also recently hosted the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, a huge women's basketball tournament, at the Ciudad de la Paz Stadium in Merida, bringing in hundreds of women from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, United States, Venezuela, and elsewhere.
